Thank you indeed

for both F1T and RCE for for organising such treats. We've all got a degree of curiosity in here (and very few are worse off for that), but more than that, a willingness to explore, learn, understand and perhaps ultimately create and contribute. These kinds of gestures help in supporting the faith we have in our endeavours, wherever our passions and challenges may eventually lead us.

This isn't the car that will be launched... Force India will indeed launch an updated version of the B-spec Spyker car with a special focus on aerodynamics. That car is what they call their A-spec for 2008. It also appears that the team will use a brand new livery and this will be unveiled in February.

Yeah, it doesn't even have the new driver side head protections, so I guess only that would make it illegal to be raced this year... but I was waiting for some kind of clarification from you or Sam. Nevertheless, indeed you are doing a great job, Tomba and Principessa. More than ever this is THE F1 reference site! =D>

This is the 2008 car, which is also a 2007 car!! They will introduce a B spec sometime soon which will include a new gearbox, but retains the '07 tub and a lot of other bits. There will likely be a C spec too later in the year. #

Interviewed one of the Spyker bods today

"Is this the 2008 car?"

"yes"

"but the chassis plate says built: 24-01-2007"

"that right - but we are keeping the same tub"

"so this is the car you will be racing in 2008?"

"yes"

"will there be a B spec"

"yes theres constant evolution going to happen between now and the first race, to the point that we will be getting parts out there right up to the last minute. There will be a B spec and a C spec later on"

They're not acting

as if they had great resources - yet. Still, they're doing a lot of wind tunnel work currently. Despite the "shoestring budget act" it was just reported that Mallya has put in a cool $50M extra into the coffers of his team, bringing the yearly budget total to $120M. Mallya Commits $120m to Force India, link. Grandprix.com has also suggested that it might be a good idea for TATA to move in by acquiring Cosworth. Perhaps so, it's not as if TATA has been uninterested in motorsport and F1. Indians moving in?, link, TATA racing, link.

MG aint exactly happy about F1 at the moment... this from an interview we are publishing in the march issue

"So how can the rules be changed [in December 2007] for 2008? It seems a terrible shame that when F1 is ostensibly so healthy and competitive, it is in absolute turmoil. And you have to ask yourself why that is? And it’s not because teams can’t survive. We’re the smallest team on the grid and we’re perfectly capable of surviving and being competitive. What hurts us most is random rule changes."

Mike Gascoigne I expect!

I assume his comment was about the mooted changes in the rules to limit wind tunnel testing...this would indeed have hurt Force India as they literally got their new one up and running 6months ago (spoke to the guy fixing the calibration!). For a small team to have invested in that got it working and then have the rug pulled would have been a disaster....especially when the rules would have been un-enforceable anyway, which is why they've been dropped.
