Red Bull RB6

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Proof?
I've seen fans on Renault car, but that was only because it did shows with engine revving.

Aah yea I missed that water doesn't expand that much as air does.
So why the inlet has much bigger diameter then?

kind of new at forums so I don't really know how to post pics etc. but if you google red bull rb2 radiators, there's a pic on the second page. But it could also be because of a similar showing

I've seen fans on a couple of the F1 cars when they were at Goodwood. Presumably as they were not running anywhere near the speed they'd need for passive cooling to be effective.

Seriously? Cooling fans are illegal on all areas of the car. Only during promotional events are they allowed since they are not FIA sanctioned competitions and require slow speeds and full stops.

Use img button, it adds tags automatically and you only need to post URL.
I did a search and found this one you probably meant,

It is probably from some promotional event.
No fans are allowed on F1 cars...

Yeah thats the Redbull promotion car, not sure what it is a RB5 (but not quite) with a Cossie V10 hence the insanely tall exhausts.

If there might be a reason for different diameter it could be temperature. The hot pipe might be smaller so that it can take more stress. my guess.

Re: Red Bull RB6

It is no RB x. They use parts from every car trying to have it a bit up to date.
Somewhere in the net is written to which car it comes closest. I think it was RB4.

In the end it has nothing to do with RB6 and so does if fans are allowed or not(They are not). I hope we can end this now or move into separate threat.

Lets focus on the RB6 radiator again.
There are still some questions unanswered.
1. Confirm that big tube is for hot water therefore water inlet.
2. Why are the hot water tubes bigger?
3. Why are they running a split (top, bottom) radiator?
4. How does the water flow trough radiator? I made a assumption on one of my posts that the water goes from the outside of the car to the inside and on the front of the radiator back.
Seems like nobody noticed my comment or I just failed to explain properly. I guess I have to make a drawing to explain better.

Strikingly ,Mr.Newey is a Historic car afficionado...
and Jaguar V12 engines use some intriguing weird double pass radiator layout that reminds me of this one...

The radiator for sure is NOT single pass ,as water in and outlets are on the same side of the core .
So in effect to me this is a front rear divided radiator core as a starter.
But now things get interesting...

No ways the volume of water entering and leaving the radiator is not the same ,as it can´´t produce water ...so just why would he have different water pipe diameters? .

just to be a smartarse :D
the mass of the water entering and exiting is the same
the volume is different as the density will change with temp
but I don´t think that this is the point here, in regards to the tube size

the volume of water doesn't vary significantly as a liquid in response to changes in temp

I don´´t mind posting the link to the relevant graph again:

http://de.academic.ru/pictures/dewiki/8 ... omalie.png

I´d say 4% in volume change between 0 and 100°C is not justifying an increase in tube size ,especially as we won´t ever see a delta t even close to that value in water temps across the core of the rad...

Hopefully the water is not full of air bubbles coming from the engine (if this was the water in tubes)...and they use the big tube as a swirl pot..(just joking there boys).

for me the thing looks like :they had only one big tube to start with but found out they had some issue and solved this by adding the lower pipe ...and just kept the original pipe as it was.
