Lotus E22 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Why bother with a torque sapping CVT transmission with all the extra weight of a drive system, when you can just as easily feed the recovered energy from the turbo and feed it as electric power to the motor.generator on the nose of the crankshaft?

It is simply a control issue of balancing input and output electrical energy from the Hers motor/generator to maintain turbine rpm and recovery efficiency.

Excess recovered energy goes to the battery/super cap storage.

Its not exactly brain surgery.
I was talking about eletrical link if you read my post... No brain surgery needed...

What is that thing thats attached to the back suspension that you can see sticking out from a few of the pics ? Looks almost like a wing coming of the suspension going under the RW.

I am more interested in that little "chimney" air outlet that seems to point out to the uderside of the rear wing.

Seems they are trying to create a beam wing with the bodywork at the rear?

Nice to see they've stuck with asymmetry at the rear!

Single central pillar/DRS actuator mounted to the left of the exhaust...

They probably use MGU-K for starting the engine. BTW doesn't the nose from side looks quite bulky to you? Or do they have upside down U shape running?
