Lotus E21 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It's like the DRD Monkey Seat but taller and with another blade mounted horizontally. Interesting

And the beam wing's central 15cm section is raised higher... (like the standard beam wing when the DRD 'monkey seat' is not mounted)

The ears are actually closed like they were last year when not in use.

But earlier they were opened. They probably closed them when the rain started.

"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

Is that the new DRD??

Without the rear tube...

The new monkey seat might somehow project the air under the rear wing without the need of tube.

Looks like the ears were open all the day.So, I would said it is complete DRD layout including open ears.
Fernando Alonso is the best pay-to-drive driver in F1 with the biggest amount of money behind him.

Considering the reflection, the ears were open at the time the picture was taken.

They were opened all day as in the fact that the bodywork part which closed them was removed, but I think that they actually stayed opened for a short period, then covered back with duct tape as you can see in numerous pictures.
