Hi guys, time for my next report.
Gearbox, Exhaust and Bodywork
After I complete the floor of a car, I construct the gearbox. Here you can see the main piece:
Here it's folded and the mounting holes for the suspension are added:
Here is the completed gearbox, with the carbon texture, the top wishbone rear mounting part and the spike.
Mounted to the floor. Sadly, not in focus.
Here you can see the underside. The place where the rear jack lifts the car is also there. Overall, that area turned out pretty good.
Adding the exhaust was quite straightforward, not much to say about it. You can also see the connection detail from the floor to the gourney flap over the diffuser.
Now the bodywork was a torture to get done. I started with the central element, which took me 3 times to get right.
The side panels are the weakest point of the car. Their shape took about 8 attempts. In the end, its shape wasn't bad. The only problem is the large and visible gap between it and the sidepods. Anyway:
I hoped though that adding the decals and the carbon fibre texture would cover things a bit. That was true, only the gap remained exposed. The reason I'm not that worried though is that Paul had that same problem with his RB7. Also note the vertical fin on top.
And the (almost) finished bodywork. Only a layer of varnish is missing.
Despite the other problems, the undercut is nice.
And the whole car after almost a month of construction:
Next step: Suspension!
Cheers guys
