Sketchup to Solidworks

Post

I know how to get something from Sketchup to Solidworks (export .dwg) but its throwing up a few problems

Sometimes i get an error that some of the entities haven't loaded and i don't know why?
It loads it as lots of surface curves (and other surface things) which means it takes a long time adding a thickness (so i can run a flow test) to each one. So i looked up you can use the shell tool, but this is grayed out? And I can't see the difference between mine and the tutorials for the reason why its greyed out

Is it something I'm doing wrong in Sketchup or some settings or is it something I'm doing wrong in Solidworks?

edit: or failing the above, just some tips getting something from sketchup to solidworks flow sim. I've found tutorials for separate things and i'm trying to put them all together which may be where i'm going wrong.

Thanks!

Re: Sketchup to Solidworks

astra,

i've seen these grayed out commands before after attempting to import into solidworks (and even when workingwithin sw). it usually means that solidworks doesn't "see" a solid to which to apply the command. most of the time for me it means that the imported thing has open gaps that don't close into a solid.

but you said you import surfaces and then thicken them to make solids?

i'm not familiar at all with sketchup. can you send me some screen shots of the surfaces in sketchup, what you exported/imported as, what they look like in SW before you work on them (including the tree), and what they look like b4 you try to shell them. include the tree elements

when you first import them into sw, does sw ask you "do you want to try to heal the surfaces and make a solid?"

bypass the f1 techical messages and email me direct at flyboy555@netzero.net
