Mobile Devices & F1 - iPhone, iPads, Android etc

Post

It'll be interesting to know how people use mobile devices for following F1.

I've been lent an iPad to trial. It is wonderful for causal browsing sitting on the sofa, or catching up on the news at breakfast. I've also set up twitter feeds for my favorite F1 journalists.

However you quickly come against the limitations.

It doesn't have Adobe Flash, no embedded video doesn't work on F1.com or BBC .

It doesn't have java runtime, so the F1 timing page is blank. There is a timing screen app but that is simply the current lap time without the sector times. This is all you can get for free on the iPad...

You have to pay £20 for an app to get the timing screens that are free on a normal browser on a pc or mac. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/f1-2011- ... 19387?mt=8

I have been using the free app since last year on my Nokia E72. It is not bad I must say, but it is not that useful as well. I have the Autsport app on my iPod touch and it is a nice way to follow races live. The commentary is pretty nice as well. I have not had the chance to get the paid app from F1 official website.
I totally agree with you Richard. You have to pay for sth you can get free on their official website using your PC/Mac. It is not worth it. An iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch really bothers you when you visit websites which require flash plugin or java runtime. I haven't tried Formula1 website live timing on my other phone which is HTC Desire(running Android). I have to see whether it works or not.
