New display in helmet for Schumi

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

New display in helmet for Schumi

Post

Following his brother Ralf, Michael Schumacher will shortly have a display in his helmet that shows him his driving line during his fastest lap.
This is all possible thanks to the two way communication thas the FIA allowed again this year.
Whether it will cause time advantage is another question to ask :)

Well Tomba said: "This is all possible thanks to the two way communication thas the FIA allowed again this year." and two-way communication is no longer legal...so yeah.

With the shrinking of electronics since 2002, it wouldnt be beyone belief to have a PDA sized CPU embedded into the helmet, as well as the OLED visor and micro HD camera.

I seriously cannot believe that this is not a multi-million dollar industry to be honest.

From memory FOM toyed with in helmet cameras last year. At a couple of tests or races a small camera was fitted forwards facing inside a drivers helmet.
I don't know whether they are planning on pursuing it further or whether the jitter of the drivers helmet bouncing around gave an unsatisfactory image

I'd doubt it's much of an advantage, just displaying line. I'd rather have something that counts down to brake and turn-in points.

Even then, you're trying to react to a display and you're not focusing on DRIVING. Might just as easily slow you down.
Grip is a four letter word. All opinions are my own and not those of current or previous employers.
