Front Uprights Renault R26

Post

I have some Renault R26 (2006) F1 uprights I'm using on a project, and need some advice on how the top mounting points for the upper wishbone and steering control arm were attached on the R26.

Typically, camber plates were fitted to others I've seen, but these have a slightly different arrangement?

Ok, this is how I assumed it would be - pretty simple really...

Now my question is, surely the clamping force of the fixing bolt through the spherical joint would not be enough to prevent unwanted movement in the connection.

They must have machined parts to fill the voids in the slotted holes, allowing for camber adjustment?

Putting camber slugs in those slots would be sensible, sure.
Grip is a four letter word. All opinions are my own and not those of current or previous employers.

the parts fitting into the slots will most likely look like these ones.

note that you only need to make the parts from one side to the middle position, then if you need more adjustment, you turn the inserts around.
This is a quite common layout on some race cars to set antidive/antisquat on the
inner wishbone pickup point.

Hope this helps.

Why antidive? It is not adjusting camber (even changing King Pin angle maybe)?

sorry, if I did not make myself clear.
You are correct, that in the case of the R26 these inserts are used to change camber and toe, KPI will change as a function of the camber setting as well I guess.
What I meant to say was, that these type of inserts are found quite commonly on other race cars, to change the inner wishbone position, to adjust antidive/antosquat etc. - It does not change these things in the case of the R26.

something along the lines of this:

I guess (as I don't know), just looking at the photo, that they have pairs of these inserts, as you would change toe, every time you make a camber adjustmnet.
I supose, they set the toe, they want, at the rack, and then just change for a given pair of these inserts when making a camber adjustment, so that they don't need to adjust the toe setting every time, they change the camber setting.
Just swapping the inserts from Set A to Set B or from one color to another, and by doing so, automaticly comensating for the toe change - but I could be wrong.
