Air Box Idea

Post

Could you put wings inside the airbox above the drivers head???

What im meaning is wings that direct the air down into the engine headers to reduce how long the eingine cover goes back towards the rear wing, having a short airbox to improve the efficiency opf the rear wing, posibly solving the turbulance that the RB4 and R28 shark fin does, but with out that.

Could that be workable???

Thanks.

No - there are regs to dicate that the airbox cover is certain size - hence the large ones we have now as opposed to the small one on your TF103 pic.

Most likely it woud increase drag. However the F2007's airbox had a 'splitter' inside that would split the airflow (the upper part was used to cool the gearbox.

No! I still can't see the subatomic particles! [-X

yea, sad they don't look like they did a few years ago. I think the current rules make the cars look unproportional.

I can see the particles, Modbaraban. I reported the post and provided Principessa with a smaller picture: I did not realize it showed a possible position for the wings until a scaled it down... ;)

I think that (different from Manchild's nose idea) the interior of the airbox is not a good place to put wings: you do not want to impede the flow of air.

Perhaps the entire box could be shaped like a wing. I mean, the leading edge of the box, just around the entrance, could be thicker and diminish in thickness as you move toward the rear end of the car: that would give you some extra force.

Not that it matters next year, when aerodynamic force is limited. If you wish to create downforce at every surface, I suggest to use this helmet (it's a joke, it's a joke!). Notice the primitive HANS device on the back of the character (he's Gunther, in the "Nibelung's ring" play): it can be used for more downforce, as I see it. :)

I'd think you'd want geometry and transitions in the airbox to be as smooth as possible to promote laminar flow, prevent flow separation and head loss.
