100% agree. By all means have sprint races, but not immediately before a 'real' race, and don't include the points at year end. If they feel there is not enough entertainment, allow guest drivers or reserve drivers to have a Saturday race.
Just ditch it, I still really don't like it at all. It's like a second chance for everyone in fast cars that messed up during qualifying.
I like it on Friday when qualifying happens sooner
the sprint races themselves are generally a bit meh. Imola was an alright race tbh but I think most of the time the lack of strategy means you’re only likely to see action if someone’s out of position - otherwise it’s just lining them up in pace order and being shocked when a slower car doesn’t overtake a faster one.
If a faster car is out of position for race, it just gets by with a DRS move while that driver's competitor who had a straight forward qualifying, is cruising at the front without a fight. Is there really any fun in watching that? Do you want to watch Leclerc DRSing through the pack while Verstappen is cruising ahead?
At least a sprint weekend provides more competitive bursts than 3 free practices where mostly, teams run only half the time and as an audience, you just sit watching the cars doing their own thing. Even if cars line up on the basis of their competency, there is going to be a fight if not overtakes. There are strategic punches that can get the audience excited.
