Gamers alert: Expert tip for the best setup in Australia, Albert Park!

Sergio's Race Engineer Marco Schüpbach has reacted to a gamer's request who experienced problems setting up the car for Albert Park in Codemasters' brand new F1 2012 game and put together some expert tips for the best setup. Follow his tips and let us know your best lap time!

Down force level 80-100% of the maximum, have a look at the other car’s top speeds (DRS on).
Soft suspension OK. If the game has no bumps implemented don’t worry and go stiff, better for aero.
Ride height on the front as low as possible and start with the rear quite high, good for aero.
Not sure how the game reacts, but it is normally better to have an understeering car when you cannot feel all the feedback, if you have to correct all the time you’re slow.
To reach that target, follow normal rules of balancing the car.
Traction is one of the most important things around albert park. An understeering car helps there.

Driving: don’t brake too late before the long straights as you need good exit speed. If you need to sacrifice something, then it’s the corner entry. The only corners where it makes sense to focus on the entry and carry a lot of speed are T11/12 and 13. In T11/12 the line is very important, don’t miss the 1st apex, and you can carry lots of speed there. And: T5 should be flat, otherwise something is wrong.
ye that makes me laugh. some of the effects the engineer says are the opposite to what codies say it will do in the game.

For fun, this game is great. the AI are very 'aware' of you and others around them which makes them seem like idiots.

You must have seen a car go over a chicane and to avoid another car the AI will slow down and pull off the track

Out braking on the inside has the same effect! It all means this game is far too easy, but it still has the one thing no other game on the xbox 360 or ps3 has. PROPER GOOD ONLINE QUALY!! LOVE IT!

Frankly i prefer a simulator rather than a game. That's why i'll keep racing endless sessions with Rfactor :)

in relation whit graphics...F12012 is the n°1!!! (punctures are great! visually speaking)

the pictures do look great, but there are many cheesy mistakes in the animation still, and the joins of polygons at times look 1990's so a visually stunning mp4-27 sat in the garage becomes a bit of a hash up when dirtying it up. I think iRacing is leagues ahead in terms of solid graphics.

for a game where they have to make only 12 different entire textures for the racing suits, it is pretty disgusting actually:
Legs and arms...
then take note of just how bad the tyres look:

How many patches have been released so far? I think something like 5 or 6.
Quite possibly the only developer who releases an unfinished game, with bugs then after release sends out patches in a rapid pace to fix what never should have been broken in the first place.

2 patches actually.

But the annoying thing is that when the game was released, it had its elder siblings' capability of not performing autosaves, and incapability to save. Thankfully that has since been cured.

Have to say, other than De La Rosa's demonic starts the game doesn't seem too bad at the moment. I like the strategy engine and degradation model - I've had quite a few racess where it's been 2 stop vs 3 stop, etc.

Only dev who releases unfinished games and fixes via patches?

You don't do a lot of gaming do you :P

I'm also having tonnes of fun with this game and the way strategy of all kinds has been implemented is quite exciting during races.

I was having a race in Hockenheim on career mode and there was a high chance of rain so I set my car up with a lot of downforce despite much of the race being dry.

Needless to say I was struggling for pace compared to those around me, but once the rain started to come down I started to pick up relative speed and people started coming back to me.

As the rain got heavier with a few laps to go I took a gamble on intermediates in anticipation and they were actually overheating a piece, but it didn't take long for the rain to start chucking it and I was zipping around the track while cars were literally gliding and spinning 360 degrees on corner exits with no traction. They were braking significantly earlier.

I ended up in fourth place in a Marussia :D

ALSO, IF YOU GUYS ARE INTERESTED IN RACING GAMES, CHECK PROJECT C.A.R.S OUT:

Has all kinds of cars styles, from Formula Rookie/Formula "B"/Formula "A" (licensing), to GT, to Karting, to the LMPs, classic Forumula 1 Lotus (Lotus 86 Turbo/77).

They even have the license for the BMW Sauber .08 :D

Its still in pre-alpha, but the handling is immediately 100x better than an F1 codies game in terms of force feedback etc. The physics are waiting on a new model at the moment, but they're already quite good.

There's a lot of stuff to say about the game, but its probably best you go here:http://www.wmdportal.com/#, if you're interested.

It just seems to me we might as well be discussing the chronic oversteer on Mario Kart and the physics behind the banana shells but that´s just me i guess.

This game is horrible. Here are a few things i've noticed.

Q3 full wet session means the race starts fully dry with every one full wet tyres...

The AI is so poor that they just suicide their race by pulling completely off the track if they come anywhere near you.

Engineer shouts are utterly stupid, and make no sense, car in front is due to pit 'The car in front is on Option tyres, we are going to struggle to make that up'

When a full wet race is done, no AI come in to change their Inters, but yours will NEVER last above 50% of the race.

Challenge mode is only 7 races, it is the best thing about this game and last for 30-40mins. F1 world grand prix 64 had almost the exact same thing, yet there where many MANY more and this was like 1997-98!

Crash physics are the same model of all codemasters races for the past 4-5 years.

The replay cameras are dogshit.

The tracks are very inaccurate.

Braking distances are ALL wrong.

Merc DRS is no different from anyone else.

Menu system glitches so the tiles are way off in the distance.

Penalty system is still very broken, many videos online of racers being hit from behind and pushed off the track who then recieve a +10 second time penalty.

Young driver test was a false promise, it is a very short tutorial.

Weather system is broken. Every single race weekend has rain. Even india and abu dhabi!!!!!!! this one really pisses me off.

Track becomes 'wet' even before the surface changes its look.

Ingame graphics are awful, the cars look tatty with awful fuzzyness of brand marking etc.

I have bought all three of the codemasters f1 games and they have never got any better, this is disgusting and such a waste of £40, there is no pride put into to this product, if you want to race a virtual f1 race then this game cannot deliver that because it does not work properly. Codemasters employees obv have no basic concept of what happens in an F1 race when they release a product that allows the AI to behave like they do and only have to pit due to the tyre change rule, rather than different performance levels due to tyre deg.

Thoroughly let down by this franchise. It is a BORING game to play, on the hardest difficulty you find yourself out front with nothing more than putting in lap times, then come into to pits only to be held in your slot for 20-30 seconds whilst the AI comes in... yes, that old pit bug is still there.

Save your money, wait for a real racing game and buy project cars or something.

I wouldn't call this good at all. The lap times are down and in this challenge mode you should be 1st out of the 1st chicane. the AI in this game is so poor that it isnt even a challenge on hard. by lap to should you be out of DRS zone.

To complete this challenge you must get a ferrari 1-2 without touching alonso.

Heh, maybe the reason I think I suck at these games is that I'm overly harsh on myself... That was pretty scrappy, and obviously on an insanely easy difficulty. He consistently gets the first lesbo wrong, cuts the second chicaine once or twice, cuts ascari once or twice, never gets wide enough on the exit of ascari to really open the angle up, never gets wide enough round parabolica, gets his breaking into the first chicaine wrong a few times, wheel spins horribly off the line (and somehow doesn't get mauled by the AI)...

If you want a challenge just do a race in a Toro Rosso or something with legendary difficulty/stock car setup and don't block illegally when another car tries to overtake.

I dare anyone to jump into a Caterham and complain that its to easy to beat AI.
