Indy 500 winner, former McLaren sporting director (2018-2021) Gil de Ferran has passed away. RIP

He was working in a consultant advisory role for McLaren since may 2023 as part of the restructuring

Oh no way!
He seemed to be the man who captained the teams when they were struggling (Malvern 2018 and he did a stint at BAR in the mid 00s) but was never there when they recovered to fully celebrate the success. I don’t think I need to mention who captained the Mercedes team after their eventual buyout of BAR-Honda/ Brawn.

RIP Gil. Seeing and hearing from you on the classic races won’t be the same again.
Just a fan's point of view

Sad news about Gil, joined McLaren at one of the most difficult periods, was a good representative of the team, class individual.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Happy New 2024 to everyone. We welcome David Sanchez and Rob Marshall to the team who were key members to Ferrari and the dominating Mercedes and we also welcome the new up to date facilities which are the best of the grid at this point. Let us go and beat Red Bull and let's see if Max is a capable driver to win without a rocketship.

I know. David Sanchez was from Ferrari and Rob Marshall was from Red Bull. Both key members of their teams.

You mentioned Mercedes in your original post, probably just a typo

I'm just hoping McLaren have closed the gap to Red Bull and can challenge them for wins.

It was reported last year that Mariano Alperin was joining the team from Aston Martin. Is this definitely the case and if so assume he starts same time as Sanchez and Marshall?

Good enough for the team to think he can push us forward I guess. The team aren't just looking on improving in the level of talent but also covering the knowledge gaps.

He was Chief of Aerodynamic Technology and seems to have done work on updating and getting the best from their Aero tooling (Tunnel, CFD and Sim) so it seems like he has been brought to Mclaren for the same, as far as I can see? Since we have a whole lot of new tooling this appointment makes sense.

Tezos and Sparco left the team as sponsors/suppliers

I am hoping you are right cause we had high hopes for James Key but he never delivered. Hopefully he was the last mistake.
