Isn't this Gunther's idea. But don't remember why this was suggested for.

Cars harder on tyres might be benefitted in q1/q2 if they are neck and neck with other teams on performance. Like haas or ferrari i think.

Teams like Mercedes may struggle.

Will the teams get an extra set of hards? The won't be able to test the pace of the Hards in practice. It would leave em with no new for the race.

I think if they really want to spice things up, they would go S in Q1/ M in Q2 / H in Q3.

It means drivers will have access to three sets of Hard tyres, four Medium and four Softs for the three practice sessions, Qualifying and the race.
I wonder if they have to give back any tires during/after practice now. I wonder if teams will not bother running on the soft in 1 of the Fri sessions.

What F1 is doing now is like the difference between a proper sim racing game and mario kart...All that's left is to use blue shells on the Red Bulls...

Don't say that. You'll give them ideas. Instead of throwing out tearoffs the FIA will give teams banana peels

From what I can tell regarding weather, the heavy rain will take place over today and tomorrow. It looks like it clears up on Thursday, with little to no rain that day. Threat of rain again on Friday, Saturday and Sunday but it looks like it'll be far lighter. Grand Prix should be fine assuming there's no extended damage caused by the heavy rain over the next couple of days.

I don't see this race happening at all..

How are the teams going to even get there in the first place, considering the images we're seeing with floods everywhere!! A shame if it doesn't go ahead! Imola is such a nice track...

3 sets hard
4 sets medium
4 sets soft

1 set must be returned after FP1
1 set must be returned after FP2
2 sets must be returned after FP3

If it rains in FP1 and FP2 (which is not unlikely this week...) 1 set can be retained, but must be returned after FP3.

Only hards in Q1
unless Q1 is declared wet, than any tyre specification is allowed
Only mediums in Q2
unless either Q1 or Q2 is declared wet, than again all specifications allowed
Only softs in Q3
unless any Q-session is declared wet, than again all specifications allowed

So if Q1 is wet and Q2 is dry, softs are allowed in Q2. With the current weather...

It is allowed to use more than 1 set of each specification, so 2 soft runs in Q3 allowed.

If i remember correctly, the reason for the new qualifying format was to reduce the number of tires that are produced for a race weekend. Therefore it has more to do with sustainability then ensuring quicker times in Q3
