With all the tech today ,could they not have a sensor to detect the track boundary and automatically put the car into pit lane limp mode... Then have gravel beyond that...
Self governing - no stewards...
As the pit lane limiter is a crucial part of the car for pit stops and the safety thereof, using it to enforce track limits would add an extra layer of complexity that's not really needed. Also if the sensor is faulty then the teams can protest the decisions and possibly impact the result of a race.
If they apply the rules properly then there shouldn't be a problem. If you give F1 drivers an inch, they take a mile. I think the FIA has been a bit tame when it comes to enforcing track limits and corner cutting.

Maybe the changes in Canada will encourage the drivers to behave themselves.

Imagine that on the exit of a high speed corner - say 200km/h. Suddenly the limiter kicks in at 80km/h. What's that going to do to the car and the driver's ability to control the car?
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Automatically putting the car into 'pit-lane 'mode (pit-lane mode speed) from very high speeds, can be compared like first gear being engaged when at high speeds, This will most likely results in the driver eyes popping out of their sockets.

Interesting the pitlane is the opposite way round here. Red bull at the end of the pit rather than the start

Amazing it takes sooo long to get going again when the cars behind the barriers.

Now Mercedes are pulling cars back from the pit exit to the garage.

10minutes wasted already to push a car behind the Barrier

It's not the pushing.. apparently they need a carrier pigeon to talk to race control that the track is clear
