Russell messed up in Q3, he had the fastest car by his own admission. and their tire strategy was just awful, worst possible, proven by few other cars in the midfield that went backwards in the race.

In terms of pace delta between RB and Mercedes, this is quite pointless diagram really, given how wrong Mercedes tire strategy was, which they admitted immediately after the race.
But one can have an Idea about how really wrong that strategy was, by comparing pace of Ric and Nor. So, Norris had the same strategy as Lewis(M-H), whereas Daniel had the reversed strategy of Max(M-S). and yeah, Norris started in front by the way. Hard just never worked.

The ideal tire strategy was medium-medium last year. (I realize that's not a valid strat).

So maybe Merc was just less confident about the softs than they were about the hards.

Alpine +0.4 in Mexico is suspicious. About Aston, last time he got it right not because 9th team was their real pace but by pure luck as it coincided with a brake problem in the only free practice of a sprint weekend. It's true that Aston was awful in Mexico last year and these things can repeat themselves..... But I think this time he will be wrong. If not I promise I'll never question his data again

Did he say he was using that? Or are you guessing. It would make sense if he was using a moving average of some sort, sure.
