Did Daniel race this weekend? He was nowhere to be seen. Yuki did well again.
Did you miss the first lap incident? He was about to retire without the red flag. And he started like Piastri with a lap down.

He easily beat Piastri which had a much faster car like shown by Norris. Great performance by Ricciardo albeit a frustrating one as he had the pace to score points.

They published this:

But that doesn't say anything. Possibly add fuel to the fire that something is going on. In the comments a screenshot from the distance, they look closer than a car length.
so you really think they rigged the photo finish?! :D

It looks absolutely the same from Perez' onboard.

It’s just that the checkered flag is a bit further forward than the finishing line and from the tv camera it looked as if the finishing line was right where perez overtook Alonso

Except that is not a photo finish, but a render.

Asphalt is not that colorful, and those horizontal lines, drawn to show movement, are completely artificial

Probably drawn with real data, but that is not a photo finish

As we discussed about it yesterday, here are the restart rules, btw:

"58 Resuming a sprint session or a race

[...]

58.4 At the two (2) minute point [...] any cars that had been lapped by the leader at the time the [...] race was suspended, will be allowed to leave the pit lane and complete a further lap, without overtaking, enter the pit lane and then join the line of cars"

Ricciardo and Piastri were never technically "lapped", they just did one lap less, but I'd think in the spirit of this rule, they normally should have been allowed to get back on the same lap as the others.

My comment was for the overall weekend! Same goes for Oscar, who also had an awful weekend. Oscar was behind Daniel in all the sessions, throughout the weekend.

that's how photo finish cameras work, though. The whole smeary background is the finish line - there is no asphalt supposed to be in this picture at all.

No, it's a real image, could be called "sureal" as finish line camera equipment has always produced such images. Effectively it "inverts" our conventional thinking of photography by moving the camera recording device/media with the moving subject (while the device itself stays still and at 90 degree to subject).....making it look static....while letting the track surface move in relation to that image device, colour purity of static surface is sacrificed often to facilitate correct exposure of moving target.

It used to be done with film cameras by moving the film laterally at the same speed as target, but likely electronic sampling now from a static image plane device.

Looks distorted, but is a true image. A specialised area of imaging thats pretty unique.

Everytime he has had a car capable of fighting for the WDC he has only gone and won it. Quite the impressive record
Impressive. But let’s see if that’s still the case in 10 years time. I suspect not. Alonso, Hamilton, Schumacher, Vettel have all had one another in competitive rival cars, equal, or as teammates. Max has in 21’, and basically lost, until Masi intervened
Red Bull have tried multiple times to get the next best driver on the grid to race for them but he won't do it. I don't see any of Norris/Hamilton/Leclerc joining him at RB, the only way to beat him is with a faster car.
Agree, which is disappointing for the sport. Unfortunately, for the neutrals, he’s going to dominate right up to 26’, as RB’s rivals seem lost during this regulation.

What is that supposed to be? It's not Interlagos, it's not in daylight, some weird composite image? Meanwhile the real deal (slightly after the finish line):

Checo was definitely across the start/finish line first.

Why is the official timing line behind the actual line?

No, start/finish is the line alonso crossed first, all other lines are meaningless. Drivers know this, teams know this, casual fans dont.

It's been like this since forever and there are probably some reasons behind all this, but in most cases it's due to pitlane entry being parallel to it.

Sorry but if the official photo uses the centre of the wheel, then unless the photo above thst was posted from the stands, has been edited, then checo was ahead at the actual line.

(Sorry mods if this post is off-topic. Please inform me had you moved into another thread)

I don't get why is so hard to embed a Sprint race onto a normal race weekend format if they are desperate to increase the audience. You have to alter some small timings and schedule a couple of other ones such as:

- On Friday the same stuff as usual: FP1 and FP2
- On Saturday: FP3, then after a couple of hours SQualy and after another 2 hours go for the Sprint race
- On Sunday: 4 hours before the Grand Prix just do the normal qualy session but this time they could change the car setup overnight just not to risk any errors like they are doing now with this only 1-hour FP format.

And there are at least a couple of things to do if they further wanna increase the show and audience, especially on the younger lads:

- to have at least half a dozen drones sporting some high-speed live-action cameras just to be near the most important battles on the race
- on Saturday evening all the drivers should do an e-race starting on the same starting grid they did on SQualy ...

the only line which counts is the "control line". That photo from the stands shows another line somewhere around the pole position, much further down the straight, which is completely meaningless
