RB20 speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

W14 style.
But W14A or W14B. Different angles suggest different inlets.

Quoting myself but i’m pretty sure now it’s one of these two. Though now i’m leaning more towards vertical as well. It can be seen quite clearly here. Anyway, love all this drama more than some actual races haha.

I guess the area under the mirror just above the floor. Suggestions there's a thing vertical inlet there. I'm not convinced yet but we'll see.

Same question here, mate... can't really see it.

(despite being skeptical about the Gazzetta article, never say never... but it seems very unlikely)

it's confirmed the car has vertical inlets

 this is Gazetta. It's speculation no better than on here.

Fair. It won't be long now.

There is a vertical shadow in the space between the new mid-wing and the white wings Castore logo near the bargeboard. The shadow is about where the W13 vertical inlet was originally.

Worth adding it's not exactly a zero sidepod concept. The car quite clearly has pretty well sized sidepods, even if the inlet is vertical and lower on the side of the cockpit.

In this screengrab it looks to me like there's a clear break in the line where the upper floor surface meets the vertical wall of the sidepod undercut.. kind of like the Ferrari s-duct entrance, but maybe a taller version? Is this the vertical inlet?

Unconvincing when you compare it to the obvious horizontal black patch under the midwing exactly where you'd expect an intake. But we'll see.

Clearest image i could get a traced how i see the overbite
https://i.ibb.co/W0h8gwP/Screenshoou-Tube.jpg
I think it is very clear its an overbite, the real question is how small the inlet is, this photo suggests it is TINY, like a slot. basically just flip the AMR24's inlet and ta-daa

Indeed, if you look under the midwing...unless they have a blunt surface there, then it appears there is a very thin intake at the leading edge of the sidepod structure just below the midwing.

Doesn't even need to be said. The sidepod clearly carries the RB profile. The inlet is the enigma.

Perhaps, but there was a lot of talk of following the W14 when it clearly is nothing like that concept in terms of the sidepod arrangement. Which is what was the focus of the conversation.

There is no intake, the radiators are fed a stream of high pressure air by bluetooth. At this point it's only 4 hours left, we can wait for the reveal, unless someone at red bull saw this thread and decides to troll us by hiding the intakes.

Also while Mercedes w14b sidepod concept was compromised by its chassis, the concept was still good. The w14b struggled with extracting downforce from the floor consistently since they went too conservative with the floor edge height. That's why when they lowered the floor they were highly competitive but also got disqualified for plank wear.

Mercedes also struggled with ride control early on with the w13 like most teams.

And for the discussion on overbite or underbite, it only really matters at low speed.
