Dimpled golf balls, car/plane wing end plates, wheel air curtains in car bumpers --> all cases of 'otherwise not necessary' design aimed purely at managing air.
Would you like to reconsider ? :)

Nope, it’s just simple physics, if you add additional air management devices into the air stream, they add drag. You don’t get anything for free.

Looks like Ferrari still works out air at rear in quite a unique way. They do not have the plain slide everyone else features

Winglets add parasitic drag but reduces induced drag by a greater margin than the gain of parasitic drag. So you could have a net reduction in drag coefficient by adding bits. Just depends what we are talking about here

Looks like everyone is is running RBR mirrors this year except for VCARB.

I think it has something to do with producing outwash, the disturbed flow coming off the top of the wheel probably isnt favorable and having the mirrors introducing downwash with the winglets could keep the wake attched to the top of the pod which wouldnt be great... or im overthinking it #-o

How would you guys rank the chasing pack in terms of mechanical grip and aerodynamic grip?

The Merc looks very good in slow corners again, but less so in medium speed compared to say, the Ferrari.

So the mirror shrouds are indeed reducing drag as seen SF71 v SF70, right ? A case of an air-managing device reducing drag ?

No, shrouds increase drag and reduce losses downstream

Thanks, my bad. Being an aero novice, was looking at the 'size' of the yellow, behind the shrouded mirror, rather than lengths to which the blue and green stretch, which indicate the extent of low pressure area.
