Alonso likely to stay at Renault
Two times World Champion Fernando Alonso is likely to stay with the Renault F1 Team in 2009. After the driver line-up announcements of Ferrari, BMW Sauber and Toyota for the 2009 season, Renault seems to be the best option for the Spaniard who has been courted by almost every team on the grid.
Renault has had a difficult season in 2007 and 2008 and this as there have been huge changes in staff, especially in the aerodynamics department. As everybody has settled in at the Enstone-based team, the results improve. Renault even collected its first victory of the season at Singapore, a victory nobody expected.
No official statement has been made yet and it is believed that Alonso and Renault will wait until the end of the season to do so. The team is also looking into a good replacement for Nelson Piquet Jr. Test driver Lucas di Grassi seems first in line.
