Webber going home

Mark Webber, the Williams F1 Team driver, is en route to Australia. In two weeks time, he'll contest his home race in Melbourne. Webber will be spending a few days training in Tasmania in preparation for the Foster’s Australian Grand Prix. He will also travel to Sydney next weekend to undertake promotional work for WilliamsF1 team sponsor RBS.

Melbourne F1 fans will have a great chance to see Mark and a number of his F1 colleagues playing in a charity Pit Stop Tennis Pro-Am tournament at the historic Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, Melbourne on Wednesday, March 29 between 6-8pm. Drivers already confirmed for the round-robin tennis event include world champion Fernando Alonso, Malaysian GP winner, Giancarlo Fisichella, Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, all three WilliamsF1 drivers, Webber, Rosberg and Alex Wurz, BMW Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve and Red Bull Racing’s Christian Klien. They will team up with some of Australia’s finest tennis names including John Fitzgerald, Jason Stoltenberg, Wally Masur and Wayne Arthurs.

Webber, who will be defending his pro-am tennis title from the 2005 event in Barcelona, is keen to another victory to his tally of three victories from four starts.

“To have the event in Melbourne where F1 drivers mix it with Aussie tennis pros on court, is going to be fantastic and fun to watch,” says Mark Webber, “It’s always been causal and fun but there’s also an element of serious competition which can sometimes lead to a few tennis balls and racquets going astray! It’s fantastic we have the support of so many F1 drivers and tennis stars – all of whom I’d like to thank – and this will guarantee the spectators a great event and importantly it’s all in aid of needy Australian children who require support, and what a great way to help them out."

The event is open to the public for a gold coin donation on entry. All funds raised on the night will go to the Mark Webber Challenge Foundation to be distributed to TLC for Kids and Cancer Plus (Cancer Council Tasmania).
