One-two for Renault on the tennis court!
The Renault F1 Team scored its second one-two finish in two weeks yesterday evening in Melbourne! When Giancarlo and Fernando crossed the line in Sepang, it was Renault’s first one-two finish in 24 years. Seventeen days later, and the two drivers were at it again – but this time on the tennis court!
When Mark Webber proposed to Giancarlo and Fernando to participate in his “Pit Stop Tennis Pro Am” at Melbourne’s historic Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, both drivers responded without hesitation.
The event, combining Australian tennis stars and the F1 drivers in a professional-amateur format, was held to raise money for the Australian driver’s “Mark Webber Challenge Foundation”, with the funds being donated to ‘TLC for Kids’ and ‘Cancer Plus (Cancer Council Tasmania)’, both charities dedicated to helping sick children in Australia.
Plenty of the F1 field turned out to play on Wednesday afternoon but as the evening wore on, it came down to a Renault head-to-head in the final: Fernando against Fisi. The result? 10-4 to the World Champion!
“It was fun to have an all-Renault final!” joked Fernando Alonso on Thursday morning in the Melbourne paddock. “Fisi and I play a lot of tennis during the race weekends, and it seems like it has paid off!”
By Thursday morning, glowing with the pride of victory, the drivers were hard at work with their engineers – concentrating on how they might be able to achieve another one-two on Sunday afternoon…
