Kubica survives horrible crash
Robert Kubica, the young BMW Sauber F1 Team driver, crashed heavily this afternoon during the Canadian Grand Prix. Kubica was on the run down the hairpin when he went off track. The F1.07 of Robert became airborne, hitting the wall in the centre of the circuit, before tumbling over the track to halt against the wall at the entry of the hairpin. The horrible crash only left the monocoque of the car intact.
During the moments that followed, the images from the 1994 crash of Ayrton Senna must have flashbacked into the minds of the F1 fans. Kubica remained motionless while the medical staff tried to deliver him from his car. The young Pole was immediately transferred to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve's medical centre. There, Kubica would have been able to speak with his manager before being transfered to the hospital in a medical helicopter.
As Lewis Hamilton crossed the finish line, his team told him over the radio that Kubica had broken his leg.
