McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo has won the Italian Grand Prix ahead of team mate Lando Norris. As both title contenders again clashed and retired from the race, Valtteri Bottas had a brilliant recovery to finish third after starting from the back of the pack.
The Halo definitely did its job there. Still they'll have to look into better ways of preventing a wheel from intruding into the cockpit like that.
What worries me is that we have had at least two serious accidents (Grossjean and Hamilton) recently in which the halo saved drivers health and possibly even lives. Something has changed that such severe accidents happen. Maybe the cars are too powerful after all...
Hopefully the FIA are continuing to look at ways to improve the safety. I see all these close calls and start thinking they are falling behind a little in what is required. Praising the present measures does not guarantee future success. There has to be some lessons learned that should be incorporated from the original/current design.
- At Silverstone, Team Hamilton was complaining that there were some Verstappen fans arguing in favor of a race ban. This time, some in Team Hamilton are arguing for a race ban.
- At Silverstone, Team Hamilton was saying Max should have left room. Now, Lewis didn't need to leave any room.
- Team Hamilton complains that Verstappen says "yield or we will crash" - the same attitude that Hamilton showed at Silverstone.
If there's any symmetry here, it's between camps...
This was a racing incident with Max to blame. Silverstone was a racing incident with Lewis to blame. That time Lewis was lucky, this time neither is.

How? If a car is "significantly alongside", it's a corner for both cars. Definitely not one car's when that car is coming from pit with colder tyres and brakes, missing the turn 1 apex.
When the inside car is ahead on braking, he is entitled to the racing line. If you don't agree with that, tell me why Verstappen was able to squeeze Hamilton off track at Roggia in Turn 1 (note: Verstappen was on the inside, and ahead under braking)?
Since Austria this year, the stewards have emphasized that, if a car is alongside, then no one can claim the corner and should leave space. I am not defending Max on what happened on lap 1 at Roggia.

Exactly correct! I have no idea why people are fighting this so much . Max should have backed out or aborted, instead he sent it as he knew he was about to lose points to Lewis. Simple.

I was going to comment the same. Amazing that a few years ago there was a discussion of it was necessary. Now we see it preventing several severe injuries, or worse, per year.
I wonder also if risk taking has increased because drivers feel more protected.
Definitely that. I feel because of the outstanding safety now, some of the younger drivers aren't really worried about playing bumper cars.

Ihave a tiny tiny feeling that its only happening because of what happened at Silverstone. Bit of a wind up retaliation.
