Red Bull RB16B

Red Bull are really putting a lot of work in to this car this year, aren't they. Some lovely details on the edge of the floor. =D>

They also removed the aluminum(?) finishes at various points of the floor, now full carbon fiber.
Could it be because it's the latest development so it's made of aluminum? It's quicker and if they are not sure if part will be used then why spend time and money on carbon fibre. Once when part is confirmed as useful and they have time they can make it out of carbon fibre.

Probably also because it's cheaper to alter an existing floor compared to building a new one.

Yeah i believe it is something like that, realities of the new cost cap perhaps.

Mclaren had some aluminum on some leading edges. I just assumed it was due to gravel.

Its faster to fasten metal to an existing floor than to mold a new floor or bond a new piece.

It's really amazing to see the amount of work they're putting in. They really want the championship this year.

Curious: last week in Zandvoort the front wing was almost scraping the tarmac, in Monza a much high ride height/FW height is observable.

Could have backed off the rake for drag reduction. Also to work the diffuser more with the skinny rear wing. Also at a high speed track the aero-balance wants to me more rearward for stability than at a track like Zandvoort where the front axle is more important.

Is there any chance this wing will work during the race ? Better for overtaking or reduced effect from DRS ? Can they change it after qually, FP3 ?

They're in parc ferme now so they can't change it until the first pit stop in the race (in effect).

They seem to be using a highly cambered main-plane, but overall a low A-o-A, there are some differences across the grid but the red bull is different to all of the others. The Ferrari seems to be running more wing than others. However, it is Friday, so they can do what they want.

Does DRS even do anything with wings that skinny?

It does, since most of the downforce (and drag) is generated by the upper flap. However the effect is much less pronounced than on any other track. Slipstream definitely does more.
