Speaking of feelings: For all drivers, the first few kilometers with the new generation of cars were a journey into the unknown. The cars differ greatly from their predecessors in terms of aerodynamics. And the higher weight was also noticeable: "It makes a big difference. Everything feels a little slower and more sluggish. But in the end the lap times weren't as bad as feared," analyzed Norris.

Wow, even more sluggish and slower? Is this even still F1? I hate the direction this sport is going.
The main aspect here is 'feels'. They are not a whole lot sluggish or slower. But because they are the size and weight of battle tanks, they look slower than the (substantially slower) cars of the late 80ies/early 90ies. A sad trend, understandable from a safety perspective, but I'd rather see them a bit smaller and more nervous if that would be possible.

The pace is pretty similar to the first day of testing in 2017 and these cars ended up being really fast. So no reason to worry. And anyway, for safety reason, F1s will probably never be really faster than they are now (a bit like the best lap times around Le Mans stay on purpose around 3'20)
Track was resurfaced in 2018 which was worth at least 1.5s. 3 years passed but track condition was still much better than 2017.
T10 was slower in 2017. Maybe around 0.5s slower.

I'm surprised how reliable are those brand news car for now!

It's good that every team can run and learn. Very curious to know which one of them reached the minimal weight

Tbh I am not suprised. The powerunit is a known commodity, just the fuel is different. So as these PUs were almost bulletproof in the last couple of years there is no reason to believe they'll all fail now. So mechanically the cars are not completely new.

interesting words by Sainz about purpoising:
"Dipende dal set-up che adotti, se utilizzi o meno il DRS. È un mondo completamente nuovo ed abbiamo bisogno di comprenderlo appieno perché potrebbe essere un argomento clou di questa stagione”.

Would purpoising be effecting the cars ability to continue to gain speed on the straight?

Every car is doing it. Just because Sainz commented on it doesn't mean it's a Ferrari issue...they all need to figure out a setup/solution for it.

Yes. Imagine what it’s doing to the flow field as it’s bouncing along.

Not sure about F1 cars, but a car I saw do this due to poor shock packaging and set up, it was audible as to what the engine was doing.
