He has done what I would call a race sim light. He was clearly slower than what would be possible.

Here's the race sim:

C3: Outlap - 1:40.6 - 1:41.2 - 1:41.2 - 1:41.2 - 1:41.9 - 1:41.9 - 1:42.2 - 1:43.6 - 1:43.2 - Inlap

C3: Outlap - 1:39.4 - 1:39.7 - 1:39.8 - 1:39.8 - 1:40.2 - 1:40.4 - 1:40.5 - 1:40.4 - 1:40.3 - 1:41.0 - 1:41.5 - 1:41.6 - Inlap

C2: Outlap - 1:41.1 - 1:41.3 - 1:41.2 - 1:41.3 - 1:41.6 - 1:40.8 - 1:41.2 - 1:41.2 - 1:41.2 - 1:41.1 - 1:41.9 - 1:40.5 - 1:42.1 - 1:41.7 - 1:41.9 - 1:41.3 - 1:41.1 - 1:40.8 - Box

I was intrigued as to what is race sim light

And also Lewis top speed was showing just 270 on s/f... so it's just them hiding their pace like I said before

No one really has a handle on it (maybe except for RB, I’ve not seen it much on their racecar); I think it’s here to stay quite frankly
Mclaren? I have yet to see it do it. Granted, not much running this test

👍 Good shout, McL also; although I can’t quite remember whether it was a thing for them in the first test though? I think RB have been clean thru both tests

Looking at porpoising and stiff suspension I wonder why no team have investigated advanced air seats like they have lorrrys and coaches to try and keep the driver stable no matter if the cars getting bounced around
because these are not s class which made for keeping white haired ass's of rich men comfortable

I don't know what they're doing. It's easier to be stable on track if you're much slower than the potential. To have a comparison, Gasly started his last stint with a 1:38.1, so more than a second faster than Hamilton in his last stint - however, he was on the C2 vs. the C1 on Hamilton, but still. Also, Gasly will have done 3 stints at the end, so a 2 stopper vs. a 3 stopper of Hamilton.

The car was barely touching 270 on the start straight. Half way down the straight, power starts decreasing and speed goes below 270. No idea what they are achieving with that race sim. I was wondering if Hamilton would fall asleep. :)

The engine formula is in their 9th year now... they have modes and they know how much each mod is worth... hence they don't have to run them at full beans... they can just extrapolate the laptimes based on the modes.

I wonder what some drivers would give for the allowance of small skirts to seal the floors. No need to have the cars so close to the ground that they need to porpoise. Unless I’ve utterly misunderstood the problem of course.

Because the driver has to be able to feel what the car is doing under him. Such a seat would add a layer of separation between car and driver.

And they need a solid attachment to the seat or they´d have some lateral movement in high G corners

Interesting that Hamilton has now finished testing (Bahrain) without putting up a fast lap. Yes, Merc have historically spent most of the hybrid era thumping out huge milage, but they have generally put in one or 2 fast laps. I wonder what Russell's run plan will be this afternoon.

Just the clever suspension they used to run would probably be enough. It's the return to simple suspension that's made life difficult.
