Aston Martin are really poor. They had a lot of time to get these regs right. By the looks of things they are joint slowest with Williams. Now the Otmar Szafnauer leaving is looking really bad on them. Also Stroll was really poor.

Otmar leaving is/was okay. There are many other key parts to their team set-up that needs improving e.g. Lance. Being out-qualified by Hulk who hasn't raced for a long while, nor had the mileage in pre-season testing doesn't do him any favours.

I doubt anyone will run the soft tyre at all.

most teams specifically saved softs for the race, and no one did a long run on hards, but just used them in FP1 or so instead. So I'd say that definitely points towards soft being a race tyre

Most had very few Hard sets. I think we’re going to get into a situation where the Soft tyres at any given track are going to be nothing but qualifying tyres.

usually, when anyone plans to use hards, they don't just waste them, though. McLaren was the only one to use hards in FP2 - but still didn't do a longrun with them. All others basically jsut used them for some installation laps before handing them back to Pirelli.

As mentioned before, degredation was almost similar on the different compounds during the test. So if this is still the case, it makes no sense to use those new hards, as they are slower, and don't really last longer

If Ferrari keeps this form whole season, they'll have to decide on no. 1 driver sooner rather than later, or it'll greatly help Verstappen/Hamilton or whoever that is closest to them in the standings.

Any speed trap results?

From what I've seen RB is definitely fastest on top end by some margin but ferrari has best acceleration and I'm quite positive the most downforce as things stand today.


Hamilton had 313-314 kmh top speed on both his q3 runs, but he was somewhat close to Russell ahead and that certainly gave him something extra because Russel could barely hit 310 kmh with zero slipstream and was actually very slow on main straight. Maybe even different setups because speed difference is perhaps too significant.

I think PZ is a bit early with the prediction, but generally two drivers who can potentially fight for wins will develop some friction over time.

yeah, hopefully we'll get to see some different strategies, no matter what - and drivers starting on completely different sets of tyres.
