Are you sure?
I always hear the Alpine is the third-fastest car (Alonso saying he had a chance at pole in Australia etc), but it rarely seems to eventuate on the qualifying result let alone the race result.
Well that didn't happen.Chanman141 wrote: ↑07 May 2022, 20:07Cautiously optimistic for Quali. ALO looks like a strong contender for best of the rest, maybe 2nd row of someone up front makes a mistake
[To be precise, Alonso's Alpine was 11th quickest behind Mercedes, AlphaTauri x 2 & Aston Martin -- so the sixth fastest car not the third, while Ocon's Alpine of course Did Not Start qualifying.]
I'd be delighted if the Alpine is that fast, but it doesn't seem that fast to me. Where is the evidence that the Alpine is a race winning and regular podium car, or even the third-fastest car as suggested?
It just seems like more of the usual Renault or Alpine promises that never eventuate to anything. I am reminded that Pat Fry expects it to take at least 2-3 more seasons for Alpine's facilities or "tools" to catch up to the leading teams, then perhaps add a couple more years after that to build a race winning car? So a far cry from an expectation of winning 2-3 races in the 2023 season.
