This is great news!
.
For the past two seasons, Dutchman Rudy van Buren has competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, but has been promoted on his way to 2022.
He made the switch from CarTech Motorsport to top team Huber Racing, for whom he will also compete in the Porsche Supercup in addition to the German class.
That means that Van Buren can be admired in the support program of Formula 1 this year.
"Sixteen race weekends, sixteen test days, that counts! It's a very cool season with a top team, Huber, with three fast teammates."
"I'm supporting Formula 1 for eight race weekends, so also in Monaco. That gives me goosebumps. I think that's a really cool game!
I never dreamed that I would race in Monaco. I've driven on most of the circuits, but Monaco is a special place."
"A single seater has a bit more options to adjust the setup than a Porsche car. Our pool to change set-ups is slightly smaller than a single seater, but that doesn't mean that certain things can't feel different from team to a team," explains Rudy.'
.
"It's been in the planning for a while, some snags to get it right, but now I'm very happy that the news is out."
Van Buren informed Grand Prix Radio on Wednesday morning. "Next year the priority will go to Red Bull and that doesn't mean I won't race anything besides that, but the racing has to fit around it."
From World's Fastest Gamer to F1 Top Team
In 2017, Van Buren got his big break when he won the title World's Fastest Gamer and joined McLaren as a simulator driver.
The next step was work for Mahindra's team in Formula E and now it is Red Bull Racing that is fully committed to the sim talents of the 30-year-old Leeuwarder.
"It is a lot of what is coming my way now, but that is also the nice side of the medal."
Van Buren had previously crawled into the simulator of the Austrian racing stable.
At the same time, he is also working on Porsche Supercup this season and is therefore double booked next weekend in Monza.
"Wednesday, Thursday, Friday factory in Milton Keynes and fly to Italy on Saturday morning to go straight into SuperCup qualifying." says Van Buren.
"Far from ideal, that's not something you want to do all year. And the rest of the year is still on hold, which weekends it will be for Red Bull."
Rudy van Buren World's Fastest Gamer
Van Buren made his debut in the Porsche Supercup this year with Huber Racing and also drives Porsche Carrera Cup Germany.
"We have Zandvoort this weekend, Monza next week and then Supercup is ready for this year. And then there are two more games for the German championship."
"Hopefully those races will be better than last year, but we have made a step in terms of pace in the last few races so I hope
that we can just show that this weekend. Normally Zandvoort is kind to me, so we just go for it."
