I imagine there is a deal between AT and Alpine for GAS. Part of it is to let DEV have some of the testing KM. GIO is possibly just a known entity and someone who would be good to benchmark against
PS, I do agree with him.Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has advised Alpine to give their vacant seat for 2023 to Daniel Ricciardo, claiming he would pursue the Australian driver if he was in charge of the Enstone-based team.
Ricciardo seems like honestly RB's best choice of replacement if Checo were to hang up his boots at the end of the year.
