actually I was just watching the f1 tech talk, and apparently Alpine is already competing at the required height for ground clearance. They want to see how that could affect their performance for next year.

Scarbs doesn't mention how long they've done that for, but says that he's been told by alpine that they've raised the edges of the rear floor by the required amount

That's some impressive forward thinking by Alpine. As they are not in the championship fight this year, it makes sense to take steps like this at the expense of the lower positions in the championship.

What's interesting is Permane said the A523 is coming along quite nicely.

I strongly doubt changes to the throat. Surely they would need to rework the gearbox since the gearbox is basically on the floor of the diffuser throat.

The gearbox sits in the boat tail and has a narrow base. It wouldn't prevent the raising of the diffuser throat/tunnel roof IMO.

IMO Alpine raised its throat(s) in Silverstone. Here it looks higher (and different)
Unless they just changed the fillet/the junction between the throats and the boat?

And what if Alpine added that ridge in Singapore to add some lateral 'compression'/contraction and compensate the loss of vertical 'compression' due to the raising of the throat and/or the floor edge...

Harman said this in the latest RacecarEngineering issue.
But the impact structre looks normal to me.
Maybe it's a structural thing, as he implied, not necessarily visible...
