With start straight being so long, can the lead pack afford to start on Mediums to do a one stop? Can we expect one of the Mercs to go on Softs?

All of the frontrunners' softs have had qualifying laps done on them so I feel none of them will start on the soft. Medium-hard one stop with the used softs for a late SC or fresh mediums for a not-so-late SC

I have a feeling George will start on soft.

From a Mercedes point of view it would make sense to split the cars too I think.

Yeah a bit like Hungary. Difference here is that 1-stopper is predicted to be viable; I think in Hungary it was known pre-race that it wasn't a 1-stopper. I think Merc have a good chance of getting at least 1 car ahead into T1 even if they all start on mediums, so I think they'll just do that. Starting on medium and playing the odds into T1 means you can also do a 1-stop or 2-stop and react to what looks quickest but starting on soft locks you out of a quick 1-stop

What I find odd is that last year was a 1 stopper with C3-C5, and now it's being suggested that this year would be a 2 stopper is the fastest on the C2-C4. The tires are more durable. It should shift even more towards a 1 stopper.

I will not even try to understand the tyres' erratic behaviour

I am not sure they are even the same compound from week to week as the performance is so different. It obviously depends on temperature and track surface, but ...

On further consideration I think they will start ham on mediums, Russell on softs and Verstappen on softs..

Teams should make plans for the obligatory broken Ferrari PU on atleast 1 of 6 cars.....

Maybe 2 or 3 at this altitude. The onboards had Ferrari's whistling like a kettle off-throttle yesterday

I've got money on at least 1 Alfa parking up. Most likely to be Bottas since he's having such a great weekend :(

A Haas to park up somewhere inconvenient as well. It's been par the course this season.

the official risk of rain during Qualifying yesterday was 60% as well, so not sure how accurate this is

I don't think so. What's more likely is rain during the podium ceremony.
