Alfa Romeo C43

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The way the tray widens aftward and meets the tub seems unusual. In your photo--what are those two bronze bells?
I saw that area on a photo from an other team and this bodywork consists of a very flexible material, almost like a plastic tarp, for the necessary freedom of movement between the t-tray and the monocoque.

Indeed, the t-tray is intended to move up and down in order to absorb impacts with the track surface. Flexible materials are used in the aero cover to facilitate this.

As the fifth suspension member, would there be any benefit in increasing its unsprung weight? If so, could they be ballast. It's the lowest most easily accessible part of the car after all.

By coincidence I stumbled upon this article:

Any ideas why they changed to a longer nose? I had assumed the disconnected mainplane would have improved airflow under the nose and subsequently to the floor.

Maybe they wanted to free up 2 slot gap separators so they could use them elsewhere on the wing?

With the season re-starting, a reminder for everyone that the car threads are moderated more strictly than other threads, with the idea that car threads should focus on the hardware and interpretation of how it works. And on the specific car in each car thread, please. We like our car threads shorter, focused and fact dense.

If a post is about the competition side of F1, be it faster/slower than, lap times or driver behavior, please, post it in the team threads instead (or even in the race thread!). Team threads are moderated very loosely, go wild in there. Future car parts, also in team threads, please, as they are by definition speculation, at least without an insider source.

Posts made in the car threads that are not focusing on the hardware are subject to be moved to other threads or, most likely, removed (as there are too many).
Rivals, not enemies.

the part of the front suspension that acts like a wing on the union of the suspension with the nose, is really interesting.
it seems to work a little bit like the upper part of the bargeboard or the boomerangs from 2020

Saw this photo yesterday and was sure it's a new design. However, these beam wings are same as last year. Only the carbon weave looks to be changed. Crazy angle of upper beam flap, trailing edge is at 85-90 deg for sure.
