The race was done by the rule book, so no complaining from my side. Mistakes are taken by some drivers. A interesting race, much thinking by the end (rule book). Sainz penalty a bit harsh.

It's convention that on a red flag countback, broken cars are awarded the result from their position from the previous lap.

The restart was in my opinion forced because Max had 2 bad starts allready and race control probably hoped he starts badly again, and with that they would manage to get more interesting end of the race. What they got was good start from Max and carnage at the back which was to be expected. The only good thing from this for me (and i dont want to be mean) is that Ocon and Gasly tangled with each other, two drivers which are experts at punting other drivers off the track. I guess they are going to be at war with each other from now on.

It has happened before, when Alonso hit Webber in Brazil 2003, cars absolutely wrecked, the race was called, results from 2 laps before were validated.

it was, years ago, but I didn't think it still existed. After the big crash of Grosjean in Bahrain (?) they sorted cars based on the last mini-sector order, at least.

Edit: here are the current rules, from the 2023 sporting regulations:

"In all cases the order will be taken at the last point at which it was possible to determine the position of all cars. All such cars will then be permitted to resume the sprint session or the race."

So imo the one they finished with is clearly incorrect.

People are saying there is evidence Max was wrongly positioned for the last restart. If so that's a penalty 100%
