I think Ocon doesn't need much rain to win this. Verstappen and Alonso colliding in turn 1 would probably be enough.

Panis started from 14th back then, so that was a bit of a different story.
When was the last time Alonso made a dumb move on lap 1?

Can you share one? I'll dig up that replay today. For sure! 🥰🥰
Monaco '88 for a start. May not be a last corner nail biter like today, but by Jiminy it was a great performance by Senna.
Or maybe the 2012 pole of an 43 old rusty Schumi who set it on an 5th/6th fastest car that year rather than the fastest one Senna have had that day, don't you think? 😉
Yes, that was a stunning lap.

Senna's was notable for being so far ahead of Prost in the same car. It was truly a case of being in a different league.

Both examples, in my opinion, of way better qualifying performances than yesterday's.

Nothing to take away from Max but we need to face the fact that here RB19 has a new rear wing which sports the highest load/AoA flap from all the cars hence the best traction out of slow corners as telemetry data show us.... another fact is their top speed is lower this time around being in line with AMR23 one...

How is traction out of slow corner related to wing?

It might not be Alonso making a dumb move. A dumb bit of defending could bring the same outcome. Or even someone from behind "doing a Bottas".

yeah, what I meant to say is more that I see a good chance for Ocon to stay in 3rd. And from that position you always have a shot to win as well. Unlike when starting from 14th.

based on the Google forecast, the chance of rain to come before the start has increased a lot recently. Up to 80% now.

edit: Fergie sees no threat currently, though

All through the years that I have watched F1, I have never seen a harakiri move by any of the top 3 or 4 drivers at Monaco with such a short run to the first corner and a run off to right to help. Usually, drivers accept the fate on Saturday. It's only midfield and backmarkers that are a bit overzealous. 2022 and 23 batches seems to be most well behaved grids for an opening lap in my memory.

Guys let's not forget the most important thing in this race: It's the 20th time Will Buxton reported from Monaco.

Does Checo pit early, catch up and hope field spread is really tight? If no safety cars he could get lucky. What other options does he have?

For everyone else up front overcut is always the best strat here right?

Or go long and hope everyone pits under the SC to get position. A risk and would be hard to get the pit time delta in gap, but could get some position.

I reckon he'll be top 10.
