Perez talks about racing in the king class of motorsport, and what it involves.
"Formula 1 is my sport, my life, my passion. Then, when you have such a hard time with your work, it is difficult to be cheerful at home
with your wife and children. I have therefore engaged a mental coach, because my family deserves to have that cheerful father at home," he told De Limburger.
Sounds like he's been having the same problem that Nico had before he threw it all in to one last go in 2016. But he's never going to get his own 2016, sadly for him.

Perez is nowhere near as fast as Rosberg. But I guess hes got to keep up appearances that he's trying to fight for a title. As long as Max is in the other car though, only another generational talent is going to have a good time.

Perez is probably button level when everything is going well, except Button could drive in the rain, Perez cannot.

Nah, Perez isn't on Button's level. If you'd put Perez in the BGP 001 he'd have come second to Rubens.

The problem RBR has, if they want to replace Perez, is that the better drivers know the score so far as RBR's way of working goes. They know Max is the number 1 driver in the team's eyes and the good guys aren't going to sign up to being a definite number 2 - why would Sainz go there when he can compete on equal terms at Ferrari? Sure, he could scrape a win or two at Red Bull but compete for the title? No way. Whereas at Ferrari, if the team manage to compete with RBR he has a chance of going for it himself.

So RBR are left with journeymen like Perez or youngsters for the second seat. And I'm not even sure youngsters worth the seat would want it - it's a career-limiting prospect it seems to me unless they can actually keep up with Max enough to take regular 2nds behind him.

1 and 2 drivers or just 1 driver that's better than most he's been against?

Probably been discussed, but I dare bet there isnt many, if any drivers at all, who could jump into the RB19 and drive it aswell as Max does.

Standard of Max's driving is just unrivalled lately. In my opinion anyhow.

Max is way better than Perez. That's a given, I'm sure we can all agree.

As to driving the RB19 better than anyone else? Maybe so. But it may be that the RB19 just suits Max's style perfectly. We saw this with Seb at RB with the blown diffuser. I don't see Max falling from the tree like Seb did, but I also doubt Max will hang around like many have, so he won't find himself having a bad year or two in a car that doesn't "get him".

Recently, Max has been driving beautifully. He's benefitted from having no pressure either externally or from his team mate, of course, and that definitely helps. We've seen others drive likewise when the car has been the class of the field - it's what one expects from the top drivers after all.

Would we this calm performance if Max had, for example, Fernando in the other car? Perhaps not. Or maybe we would. We'll never know.

I think Daniel Ricciardo would be ideal, we saw how he handled himself at McLaren under very difficult circumstances. The RedBull cars also suit his driving style as he likes a strong front end, just like Max.

If Max has even a slightly off day, Daniel will be there to pounce. No one has a better record than he does when it comes to taking advantage of every opportunity.

Honestly, I can’t think of a better teammate for Max.

you'd put another guy that likes understeery cars into a car made for a guy that likes cars with a happy rear end?

Doubt it will work.

Even Stroll got 2 podiums in the Racing Point. It was the "Merc-lite", don't forget.
But only scored 60% of Perez's points despite Perez sitting out a couple of races with Covid. Perez beat Stroll emphatically in both seasons. And before that beat Ocon twice, and Hulk twice. Perez had one of the best midfield records on the grid before he joined RB. 6 straight seasons of beating his teammate, two of whom I'd classify as very decent drivers, one not so much (but he beat him by a lot).
He spent much of 2017 trying to take out Ocon. Every time Ocon was close, Perez hit him. Hulk has flattered to deceive over the years. Quick on his day but never seems to be able to be consistent. Never achieved a podium in F1 which is amazing given he is held in such regard by some. All three are journeymen, basically. Perez is certainly nowhere near Max's level and is a waste of that car. If it wasn't for Max and the RB19 being so good, Red Bull would be looking over their shoulders this season. If anyone gets close next year, Perez will be a liability for the team's title chances.
It's interesting you say that because Ocon didn't have a DNF until the second last race of the 2017 season, and finished in the points all but two races. Perez didn't "take him out" once in fact.

Hulk. I guess he's deceiving everyone in F1 then. Getting drives all these years. He's got everyone conned except you it seems.

Midfield drivers are journeymen almost by definition, except for Perez. Perez had the best record out of all of them and stayed with one team for 7 years. Doesn't mean he's on the level of Verstappen, no one is. But the revising of his record to make him out to be some kind of bum who was never decent is a lie.

Max is good enough that he doesn't need a poor team mate "talked up" to make him (Max) look even better.

Perez is nothing special (in terms of F1 drivers, obviously all of these guys are top drawer compared yo the rest of us).

Yeah, Danny would be a better team mate for Max. Probably now at the stage in his career where he's realistic enough to bank points and take wins when he can.

"Flatters to deceive" means looks promising but ultimately disappoints. That basically sums up Hulk and is why he never gets the very top seats. He's a great guy to have in a midfield team but he's not more than that. Which is strange when looking at his junior career where he did very well (and of course Le Mans).
