So I had this idea...............rotating drivers with cars

Post

crazy as this will seem, think about it before beating on me.

there are ten teams, twenty drivers and cars.
What if you rotated each driver to each car, so everyone drives every car on the grid.
Constructors points will be given to the best team, Red Bull, Mercedes etc based on points like now.
Drivers will be given points the same way as now also.
The difference will be no one driver will be in a dominate car more than one race. The best driver will of competed in every caliber of car. Max or Lewis could of won in the Mclaren, Norris or Russell in a Red Bull.
IMO truly the best driver would be crowned. I think it would shake things up and truly show what driver shines.
The car is a large part of the equation as when Lewis was winning.

Thoughts ??

Never argue with a fool, they will drag you down to their level and beat you every time.

It's been suggested in various forms on this forum before. Whilst it sounds good, one may as well just have F1 as a spec series with the drivers being allocated cars for each event.

Great… from a fans POV, but I don’t think you’d ever get a single team to Go for it it

Drivers earn their weight in gold, not just on track, but with their sponsors too, which would t be possible

Also, the driver makes up the last 10% of performance, why would a team capable of attracting the best want a third tier driver in their car

Exactly. It's a solely driver-centric idea. Great for fans of drivers but rubbish for fans of teams / the teams themselves.

In order to see it from the team's perspective, ask oneself which team was the winning driver in F2, F3, etc., driving for? Many might know the championship driver but fewer will know the team. Heck, even in F1, many people assume that the driver and team always win together but on several occasions the champion driver wasn't driving for the champion team.

The only way to implement it would be as a spec series, probably having the same teams that run cars in F2, etc., running the cars.

It wouldn't be Formual 1.

Whatever is offered as alternative doesn't appear to be of much interest to the greater watching audience.

IF there's a need, then that's really another series......like A1 GP........................... :wtf:

Don't we want to see all the elements pushed as far as possible ? Withing and around the rules :D

Indycar is worth a watch - very good competition in the same chassis and with 2 engines to choose from

Why do you compare it with a spec series when it would still be F1 with completely different teams? People tend to do this comparison, but I wonder about the reason, as there would still be fast cars and slow cars, and brands, and manufacturers, and all components wich are nowadays.

This system will also highlight the best teams, as WCC will also show a real order not affected by some driver talent or some driver mistakes, why would that be a problem for teams?

Driver sponsors pay drivers, that will not change. Team sponsors pay teams, that will not change. Sponsors wich pay to the teams, thanks to the driver, maybe a fund wich is divided by team results?

Why would RBR have any problem to show their car is the very best, no matter about the driver inside? Why would AM have any problem to show their car is much better than the results Stroll is achieving?

Some people criticize people only think about drivers, while they only think about drivers :P This system would be the most fair for drivers, but also will be the most fair for teams

What´s the reason you think that will change? Drivers will stop driving to the limit? No. Teams would stop developing their cars? No. Engineers or TPs will stop their search of the ultimate tenth at any cost? Nope, everything will still be pushed as far as possible, exactly the same as now

I see a tendency to criticize the idea with no reason, throwing/writing first objections wich comes to mind without serious consideration. But IMHO it deserves more serious discussion, I can see some problems, but I also can see some serious advantages wich have the potential to attract millions fans who got bored with a competition they know who will win beforehand, so I don´t think it should be discaded that fast

I think it would be an interesting way to utilize the sprint race weekends.

Also, who chooses the 20 drivers if not the teams (based on performance, marketing and commercial considerations)? :?:

Somebody has to choose them, no? If it's not 10 teams each choosing 2 drivers who they have faith in (or who brings a budget or who is the owner's son), then who chooses? :wtf:
