before the weekend, AmuS reported that Russell's "new" floor would be repaired for Brazil, where both will start with the same package again. I haven't read anything else since.

Toto Wolff -
“We will offer two upgrade packages in Brazil, two floors, but that's basically all that's coming,” explains the team boss. “We have certain restrictions on parts and we have to be creative in how we deal with that.”

“So of course there are implications. It has an impact on how many development parts we can put on the car because the answer to that is zero.”

When asked how the latest upgrade will be used in Brazil, whether on both cars, Wolff replied, “I'm always open to what the drivers think. If George wants to drive the new floor and Lewis wants to test back-to-back, we will certainly discuss with them who prefers what.”

I can`t see the problem with Mercedes letting the cars race each other as long as it`s clean. It made for some great entertainment, in what is supposed to be an entertaining sport!
If they`d given the call to Russell to let Hamilton through some folks would be giving them grief, they don`t, and still get grief, a bit of a zero-sum game!

They had very little chance in normal racing cirumstances to challenge those ahead, plus little threat from behind. I`ll bet the sponsors were happy with the amount of air time they got...

Just to clarify one thing regarding a couple of comments, Mercedes finished 45 seconds behind the front runner not "30" seconds.
Yep that was in my original comment, apologies. I don't know why people in here are coming for Vanja either. He's well within his right to call toto out. Imo as long as he's there Merc aren't winning any championships, you can blame the drivers, shovlin , Alison even Mike Elliot if you really want to dreg up the past but the buck starts with him. It's under his organisation that the team has crumbled through the foundations but of course he owns part of the team so most of you let that slide lol
“And that’s part of the game, is being able to be adaptive, and we’ve got this new car – I don’t know how it’s going to handle, hopefully she’s great.”

My take on it is that the budget cap over the past recent years has had a significant impact at Mercedes, from the outside looking in it looks like they have adjusted very poorly to it and I think that's been their biggest problem.
I think on that front, that's all on Toto.

In defense of the team and Toto, I guess we could say that these ground effect cars are very easy to get wrong as has been displayed by pretty much everyone on the grid.
But even then I think you can only defend that in the first year maybe even the second year, for Mercedes and with what they have accomplished in the very recent past to still be quite a bit off the pace 3 years in , I think you have to ask questions about the level of competency and Toto is at the top of that tree...

Ground effect cars are difficult to grasp fully. But look at ferrari and mclaren, they struggled but finally got the hang of it. Haas are a prime example of this...it was no coincidence that after Steiner left, they started making progress. I don't have anything against Toto but there has to be a change at the top. A different perspective brings fresh ideology. I could be wrong but I think the monotonous nature of Mercedes has brought them to this place.

It's starting to feel like Mercedes is phoning in the remainder of the season. A lot of stuff doesn't make sense otherwise.
It does mean they get a larger slice of windtunnel time, cfd etc next season - when they'll be developing the first car of the 26 regs, so maybe they have decided to just treat rest of this season as an extended test.

I'm sure it's not like they'll miss the prize money.
If I come across as blunt, I apologise, it's my ASD. Sometimes, like an F1 car aqua-planing, it gets out of my control.

I just don't see that, they were in no mans land in the constructors long ago, barring miracles they were never going to threaten the teams ahead and they were never going to be threatened by the teams behind.
No matter how they may have chosen to approach these past 5/6/7 weekends with their performances it would have made no difference to their likely wind tunnel and CFD quotas for next year.

Mercedes is not planning to bring any more updates this year - for budget reasons - after the successive accidents.

In Brazil, both cars will have updated packages. They will complete the season by completing the remaining three races with minor changes.

Will they be able to fight at least for one podium in remaining races?

I'd say Vegas might be there best chance to get a podium/win, they were pretty quick there last year which was surprising to me considering how draggy the w14 was and now they have a much less draggy car, its also going to very very cold, something the W15 loves
