Thanks for this!
That was a very different McLaren team back then. The McLaren of today is well organised, it has the facilities to make bold design choices then turn them into reality on track and the ability to reflect on mistakes rather than get into a blame culture that was rife at McLaren at the tail end of the Ron Dennis era.Mansell89 wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 20:182013 was a really poor one when trying to beat the ceiling in the final year of regs if I remember correctly. Didn’t we have one good test day but we’d fitted a part the wrong way round which caused the false dawn?
That being said was it not true that in 2011 or 2012 we were not necessarily sure why the car was fast?
Whereas I get the impression this time we seem to have a much better handle on why we have been quick.
We don't even touch the sides when it comes to sponsorship deals. We have OKX as our biggest sponsor at a reputed 25m per year. Oracle sponsor Red Bull for 90m.MTudor wrote: ↑09 Dec 2024, 18:43
I don't think we can complain about the lack of good sponsors.
Completely agree, hopefully we continue to see the parts correlate very well on tracktaperoo2k wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 20:45That was a very different McLaren team back then. I think people should take a step back and reflect on how far the team has come since Zak Brown was appointed CEO and had to clean up a real mess. He's achieved his goal to be title winning by 2025 one year early. If not for Zak Brown, I'm not sure if McLaren would have survived intact.
Anyway 2026 is the year to be worried about, given the scope of the regulation changes. It should be fine so long as Mercedes produces the goods on the Power Unit front.
Zak does reckon McLaren have the biggest sponsorship portfolio on the grid… whether he means the number of sponsors or total sponsorship income I don’t know.mwillems wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 20:46We don't even touch the sides when it comes to sponsorship deals. These things take time, but the team and the group need the cash.
They may well have to be fair. But the space OKX take on the car is worth quite a bit more than it was when we signed the deal, for instance.CjC wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 23:14Zak does reckon McLaren have the biggest sponsorship portfolio on the grid… whether he means the number of sponsors or total sponsorship income I don’t know.
Also I believe Mastercard have eclipsed OKX now considering they are listed before OKX in the principle partner section

That said, who knows how the deals are structured. Perhaps the performance clauses mean the income scales significantly. None the less, we're nowhere near the top of sponsorship incomes yet.
Mastercard reputed to be 30 to 40m, with top sponsorships about double that.CjC wrote: ↑10 Dec 2024, 23:14Zak does reckon McLaren have the biggest sponsorship portfolio on the grid… whether he means the number of sponsors or total sponsorship income I don’t know.

Which is understandable, we've just won our first title this century, our commercials will continue to increase for a while. Another WCC next year would be tremendous for us.
