Aston Martin AMR25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I'm not sure if that was pointed out before but it's clear that the top of the sidepod is not flat, there is a noticeable recess/puddle (don't know how to name it) + mirror winglet, up close you can see outwashing shape

AMR have tested two different noses today. I believe the first is the one we saw at filming day, whereas the second debuts today

Note: this is Nugnes
F1 | Aston Martin: curious air intake between Halo and Cobra

On the first day of collective tests in Bahrain, the Silverstone team is trying out a curious solution: the turbulence generated between the Halo attachment and the vertical flap is used to partially cool the radiators mounted at the rear of the AMR25.

Aston Martin drew the attention of observers to the AMR25 not so much for its performance on the first day of collective testing, but for a curious solution that Enrico Cardile's staff developed near the attachment of the Halo to the chassis.

The aerodynamicists at Silverstone, who are still working in the Mercedes wind tunnel at Brackley, because the new one at the Technology Campus is not operational as it is still being calibrated, have found an unusual spot where an air inlet of the Mercedes power unit can be opened.

It is a spot that is not easily visible because the intake remains hidden behind the vertical flap that echoes the Cobra concept proposed last year by Ferrari.

According to rumours, in fact, in that specific area between the Halo and the Cobra, leaks are generated, i.e. annoying turbulence, which is sucked into the cooling intake of the radiators that the Silverstone single-seater has arranged above the 6-cylinder turbo.

Aston Martin's attempt, therefore, is to combine two effects in one solution. The tests in Bahrain will have to confirm the validity of this concept, which also has the option of a closed grip.

Nugnes had already mentioned it a few days ago but with his track record being dubious I didnt comment on it, in case he was wrong. Sounds like it's real then if people are picking up on it.

There is no 2025 Car comparison thread yet but Aston Martin seems to be the most leaned towards the Low Drag Design. The different to many other teams. In fact it's almost the opposite the McLaren High drag design that many people followed including Mercedes, Ferrari, Alpine, VCarb and of course Red Bull. Weird considering McLaren won the constructors last year. Also Aston, Williams, Stake and Haas are the only teams with no vertical inlet for boundary layer in favor of low drag.
Halo not as bad as we thought
