Monza Aerodynamic updates.

Post

Anyone else notice the rear view mirror setup on Michael Schumacher car was not symmetric? Any ideas on what would be the advantage in doing this. My theory is that they might be comparing different options for next year since they have nothing to race for this year. did anyone else notice other changes not covered by formula1.com?

They never even mentioned the removal of the distinctive winglet thingies on the airbox for Mclaren.

I may be wrong, but I think the asymetric rear-view mirrors have been in place for much of the season. I don't think Ferrari is evaulating set-ups, rather offering better rear views for Schu and company.

Michael has been running one taller mirror for several races, This allows him to monitor rear tyre wear durign the race, you'll often see his car with normal mirrors fitted for fridays sessions then changing them before the restrictions in parc ferme are in place.
A lot of teams deleted normal aero devices, mid wings, winglets, chimneys, crash box wings etc. Almost every team brought smaller front flaps and a revised rear wing. True new devleopments were not really brought to Monza, so changes seen here will not be seen in the last four races fo the year. the exception being the Jordan EJ15B and the Renault format frontwing endplates which appeared on both the 15 and 15B.
More info will appear on Autosport-atlas.com in my tech review (but subscription only I'm afraid)....

I enjoyed the recent in depth look at Renault in the last issue. I didn't realise that they run with 30% less budget than McLaren, Ferrari etc!

Ferrari is using certain asymmetrical aero elements for almost half season. Asymmetrical mirrors are several seasons old invention.

OK it is not monza but spa aero update, BAR adopted a Sauber like front wing, that is partly attached to the nose of the car

Has anyone heard anymore about the 1000h.p. super engine that B.A.R. are supposed to be building for the last race of the season?

And it appears Renault have dropped the third top element of their front wing, and appear to favor a wing with more chord, in the flavor of McLaren.

Front wing

Post

Hi... i am a university student from Tokyo. I am interetsted paticulary in the arodynamics of front wing. i am wondering, is there any aerodynamic consideration behind utilisation of the spoon-shaped front wing? or merely to meet the new regulations? or other structural considerations? Are there any effects on the front wing characteristics and the rear part behind the front wing? what is the merit of using a spoon-shaped front wing compare to a flat one. Your infomation and guidance will be appreciated. Thankyou.
