airfoil plotting and CATIA

Post

Well...I just finished today a 40 hour CATIA course....I now know how to work with part design, drafting, skectching, surfaces, assembly...I think this is basicly what we learned!

Now the question is.....does anyone know any freeware software for airfoil plotting that is compatible with CATIA, so I don't need to insert point by point in order to creat a profile! (I just finished inserting 198 points)...

CATIA

Monstrobolaxa,

If you're referring to CATIA V5, it's fully parametric and will accept data sets from almost any windows or unix based formats. CATIA V5 is very flexible and powerful. So once you become proficient with it, you will be able to write a script that takes your imported point data, create splines or curves from it, and ultimately generates lofted aero surfaces.

That lofted aero surface data can be exported, and linked, to most any FEA software for evaluation. Since the source model is parameterized and linked, you can make changes to your original data set and push them through to the analytical model with a minimum of trouble.

It takes a lot of work up front to create a proper, functional, parametric model in CATIA V5. But once it's done, changes can be made and evaluated, quickly and easily.

Hi Monstrobolaxa,

Perhaps u can try out this link. i manage to import all the points and produced CAD model.

A program called javafoil will save files as .dxf, if you download the program and don't just use it off the website. It has a naca generator, or you can create your own.

I do not use CATIA but I'm using UG & SW and when It comes to airfoil
drawing all i have to do is importing a dat file that contains the coordinates
of the points and the program draw the Airfoil Section. I think you will
find something like that in CATIA
You will find a dat file for more than 2000 airfoil at my website under
download section :D
One of the most important benefit of
CAE Software is that we're approaching
The area of zero prototype Engineering
