Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I am not going to play Mr. Know it all, but they mentioned something like this before abu dhabi. They said they could hit the ground running with a basic setup that would reduce the time they need to optimize for the circuit. Hamilton was also talking about suzuka in the same way; since it was his first time there. Martin Whitmarsh also made mention of it, if i remember correctly. Mclaren is also reported as having the most advanced simulator. I am not privy to the details of the simulator.

It is restricted access to most of the mclaren employees. I heard that it uses the mp4-18 chassis. Also the mp4-12c video says they use the simulator to help develop the road cars. Must be a very good tool.

My understanding of pretty much all of the simulators were that they can basically get the cars near on optimum set up with them. That are very that, 'simulators'. If they could not simulate real world set ups then they cease to become a simulator and turn into an arcade game.

They combine previous gathered data from a race weekend, they run the simiulator with the current car dynamics and they arrive to a series of set ups that they then in turn run with in fp1 and fp2. This real life practice will confirm or discount the data they arrive with, and give them a subsequesnt direction to set up towards over fp3.

whoa....15 pages of discussion about a car that has not been launched yet...I wonder what will happen when the car is eventually launched!

When I saw the title of this topic, I thought the new car was already launched [-X

its the off-season. there's no racing, no testing, nothing. we need to keep ourselves entertained somehow! :P

On the sponsorship front, green is only one of Monster's colors. I have seen orange and yellow I think as well on their cans. Whatever color that M is hard to miss.

I wonder how long, if ever, it will take the rest of the world to realize the markup on these glorified corn syrup drinks makes them more expensive than gasoline? Well bottled water is also more expensive than gas per liter, but I digress.

This whole thread will become pretty much useless when the car launches and that thread appears, and Bar555(god) starts his technical analysis threads, so ranging around the topic will be fine until then.

I really want to see Mclaren do a drastically new livery.

I moderate on another forum and I know it is a complete PITA (virtually impossible?) to totally delete an account and remove someones posts as it messes up everything in so many threads.

I am guessing it's the same here - it won't be anything personal.

Sadly, if you post something you have to live with it.

Here's what the guys who runs the site said when we asked if we could delete someones account at their own request:

probably a good time for me to comment on retirements...

if a user wishes to leave the site thats up to them, and if they also wish to delete any uploads they have made well, we can't and shouldn't try to stop them,

BUT

we will not be deleteing user accounts or removing posts because its not as simple as that, basically its very easy to break stuff when you start removing a user, as many parts of the site look to the users table to get data regarding uploads / pictures in the gallery / hotlaps and of course their posts.. just removing a users posts could mess up the forum quite nicely as often they have a knock-on effect on the topics they were in, messing those up and leading to broken topics no one can read, etc. Removing a user could break the file downloads and hotlaps too if they have been subtmitting things there

similar in a way to changing users names.. its not quite as simple as just editing it in the ACP, because it can have a knock-on effect through the whole site and break stuff

Sadly, if you post something you have to live with it.

I have accepted that part, I was commenting on another poster asking for it, being denied, and having other posters support the original posters request.

Although, I have seen many people banned on other boards, and that immediately removed every post that they had made. Regardless of what you may think about "living with it", if a poster is held accountable for what they post, they should have the same accountability to have them removed.

It is almost like saying "If you post it, it becomes property of XYZ.com, but if it is something that is not acceptable, you own it, and get punished for it with a ban or something similar."

Double standards is just one aspect of F1T.net that I hope to never see...

guess the best thing to do to virtually erase oneself is to view all their posts then edit them one by one, then change their username.
