How exactly does a venturi channel produce downforce

the lower pressure on the exit pulls the car down (or the tarmac up, if it's Chuck Norris' car)

sorry i mean the semi circular and boxy shaped ones on the front wing endplate, so far as i have seen they aren't venturi channel shaped, even though i did read Simon McBeath's aero book and saw that the sideplates made a low downforce vortex underneath it.
