Usually they're Halon systems:

And they must discharge into the cockpit and engine compartment within 30 sec. max.

They’re not using Halon. It was banned in 1993 because it fights fire by removing air/oxygen and therefore FIA banned it in motorsport because if it gets near helmet or in closed cockpit it can suffocate the driver. All onboard systems are currently AFFF (water/detergent mixture foam). I haven’t googled for this since I’m aware of it from my ex-marshalling days.

I also think that production of Halon on worldwide level was prohibited too since it is dangerous for use in any closed areas while at open areas other chemicals/systems have better efficiency.

I don't know what they use, but you are right about Halon.

It removes oxygen and it is a banned substance (I think CFC issues too - it is an ozone depleting chemical), so I very much doubt if it would be used in F1, there would be uproar.

There are alternatives to Halon, but from what I have read it seems that AFFF is the stuff - it is FIA homologated.

The extinguishers are moulded or filament wound carbon fibre, they are physically installed in a niche in the monocoque under the drivers knees. As a result they tend to be odd shapes and not the cylindrical versions we perhaps expect to see. There is a small electronic control unit, this is wired to the "E" switches and the trigger on the bottle. The extinguisher outlets into the cockpit and engine bay via rigid tubing. I haven't noticed where the outlets are mounted, but usual motorsport practice is one pointed at the fuel injection system and one under the dash pointed at the driver.
