Insert here the obligatory "it-is-too-soon-to-know" and "we-do-not-know-what-fuel-load-and-tires-they-were-running."

Red Bull is slowly revealing its true speed and it has to be worrying for Ferrari and McLaren, and fans who want to see lots of close racing this year. Ferrari looks just competitive (good, but not great), but at least is showing reliability -- and today's little problems could actually be helpful in the long run.

Mclaren meanwhile . . .??? Williams -- can they sustain their performance once the season begins? I'd guess not.

It's still too early to know, we don't know if Vettel was running kers or the ARW, likewise for Mercedes which is still sorting out it's package, times were embarrassing for the teams compared to last year. That is all

Vettel ran a quali simulation that's for sure. Going by this we know the Ferrari and the Torro Rosso are up there. In fact, I can surely say that the Torro Rosso is a front runner this year. Top 5.. write it down..

I put Torro Rosso up for a top three finish today.

Yes, he would've been doing a quali style hotlap. BUT, we still don't know what kind of fuel figures he's running

Barrichello: "If Vettel did his time (1.23,315min) with 30Kg of fuel, then I have to say: We could do the same."

Something tells me that: a) it wasn't a glory run on only 30KG of fuel b) the team who hasn't won a race in 7 years, didn't even get a podium last year, and had to fight tooth and nail with Force India (who, by the way, only scored their first points the year before) to get 6th in the constructors by 1 point wouldn't have caught up with the reigning constructors champs so soon.

But then again Honda ended 2008 bottom of the heap. So what do I know.

All the analysis of the long runs I have read point to RB being fastest followed by Ferrari and Renault whilst the Merc and Macca are off pace. Surely the latter two teams won't mind a certain race that's due to take place early next month to be cancelled at this stage...

From a friend who is at Montmelo:
- McLaren locked wheel each time at turn 10. Appart that, it don't move at all.
- Williams and Sauber pretty quick
- Red Bull and Ferrari like on a railtrack

Any news on other teams or were those the only teams your friend mentioned.

"ONLY" 30 kg? That's a decent amount! 30kg is about 11 gallons of gas. Fuel usage is around 2.27 kg a lap* so that's 13 (call it 11 for safety) laps of fuel!

Webbers fastest lap was set on the first flying lap of a 20 lap run, which is a third of a race distance. He was 1.8s off the pace although Vettel was posting the fastest times on the two previous dates. So the Red Bull clearly is capable of going 2 or three seconds faster. This looks like Webber was driving with a full or almost full fuel load. Red Bull look good to me.

has anyone else apart from Mercedes done a true Racesimulation? As I understand all others did some longruns interrupted by visits to the pits but not really a string of three longruns.
the Mercedes racesims were quite suspicious too with very little time spread over the distance.....so to me all this looks not real to me.with telemetry and logging its too easy to simulate right anything you do what you need to do but not show your true color. In the back of the pits you can string together what you need to know.
Maybe, maybe some find importance in doing quick laps to calm down things in the media ,some may just want to play the muscles a bit.
