Yes, have to agree with you all. Just do one run in Q3. In short, qualifying is not that crucial, compared to previous years.

On a side note, why did Webber start the race on prime tyres?

To get them out of the way whilst stuck in traffic, giving him three sets of options to attack with once the field had started to spread and he'd be able to make use of them. That choice, in my view, is what earned him the podium.

Because he could ;p
Joking aside, I think the answer is not these semi-crazy tire strategies, but Pirelli making the hard tire last longer as it should. It gives lower performance, ok, but make it last a bit longer too as it was meant to.

Aye. The hards today were less durable, and less fast, it seems.

For me the greatest improvement to F1 has been the DRS. Previously the following car would catch up till it was <1sec behind & then the procession started. The leading car had a huge artificial advantage. The DRS has nullified that.

Some say the DRS gives artificial racing. I think it has restored racing.

The DRS was good today but only because they shortened the zone. If they left it the original larger distance then we would have seen stupidly easy overtakes with no excitement and very little skill involved.

Fine line between getting it right and wrong but they got it spot on in china IMO.

Great race, well done Lewis, Mclaren and Webber

Having seen the footage of the DRS, surely Alonso should be waiting for a penalty.

Sauber have been penalized for much less.

Depends if it was activated by the driver or a malfunction.

We've have crashgate, we've had spygate, we've had passgate.

Now we have ... wait for it ... flapgate.

I thought the DRS can only be activated when it in effect gets 'armed' once the car is in the DRS zone.

I think they driver gets a signal to say he can use it, I don't think it get's activated/deactivated. There's enough problems with radios and cameras failing on cars, I doubt they would have remote activated DRS.

I still feel the DRS zone should have been on the pit straight it was probably the perfect length. Having to set it up for half of the back straight just seemed wierd... Why don't they tweak the amount of time it can be used, or the amount it opens?

The leading car has a natural advantage. DRS is the artificial advantage. But I tend to think it's sort of needed, even though I dislike it much. Don't get me wrong, I get your overall point, but I think artificial is used wrongly in that sentence.

But, didn't Barichello have problems with DRS in previous race where it was activated in the wrong sector only? If he could do it manually then what was the problem? Simply that he didn't get indication that he was allowed to use it at proper times? Weird.

Other DRS glitch is that FIA did not inform the teams early enough about the subsequent changes made to DRS zone. It happened for second races in a row. The commentators mentioned that the late announcement hampered the gear ratio for the cars.

#F1 Seems the Alonso/Ferrari DRS thing was a one off electronic glitch, not a concern for the FIA
