I hope it does happen, as it seems he has seen what Schumacher ie enjoying at Mercedes and he wants a pice, and it looks as if the Williams seat is the best he can get as it seems that all the other good seats are tied up, or just not intrested. He is in the market for fun, and Williams are wanting results, and both could do something together.munudeges wrote:It appears that it is so. It would appear to be at first sight an ill-advised swansong for both, but Raikkonen has always been a driver who's made considered decisions about where he's gone, or not gone, as the case may be.xpensive wrote:I would truly hate to this happen, with both team and driver doing a swansong season just to make up the numbers.
Everything sensible tells me that Williams is going the journey at some point soon, but with the Renault tie-up that seriously seemed to annoy Red Bull and Patrick Head allegedly finally being ejected from the team there might be a few breaths yet.
The Williams-Renault deal was announced before the Red Bull-renault deal, and to apise Red Bull, Renault have now made them their works team, so Red Bull get free engine supply as a result. Renault get paid by Lotus Renault GP, Team Lotus and will be charging Williams, Renault supply the RS27-201x engine and their Magnetti/Renault KERS system, Team Lotus are paying €7m this year as they arnt using KERS, and will be paying the same next year as they will use Red Bulls.
However id recon "Einstone GP" and Williams are going to pay arround the €10m mark for Renault power next year with KERS. Renault Sport need to make €25 to €27mm a season at present to remain in the sport, and they are making this. And with the Red Bull/Renault/Infiniti-Nissan this cost is coming down for the 2014 season and onwards. Renault Sport need to make a profit to go racing, and so far they are looking like they will do so soon.
Red Bull i think were pissed off, but not now they have free engine supply and a partnership with Renault. And a key role in the V6 Turbo as they will be able to optomise the packaging for the RB10 in 2014 with the Renault V6.
Ill say that the Williams-Renault deal is for a key reason, so that Renault have a second works team for the 2014 season as i am thinking with the finances at Einstone being tight, they may go for the cheaper Cosworth engine soon as that will give them a €5m a season saving straight off.
Another thought on Kimi, would Toyota have pulled out of F1 in 2009 if they had pulled off the Kimi deal for €12m a season and paired him with Kimui??? Also would have ment a 13 team grid, and F1 could have been totally different now.
