Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Slippery rear end. I'm hearing Webber really has to take it easy at turn 3, 4, and 5.
Yes, but in what way? Instability upon turn-in? Lack of braking stability? Or rubbish traction?

I cannot physically see what's going on but if had to guess I would say it's turn-in instability due to a seriously different back end while on throttle than he is used to.

Actually on that topic, does anyone have pics of the exhausts and where they pointed today in the testing? Or where they POINT, rather.

Ferraripilot - Webber adapted the best to a throttle-sensitive downforce level in 2010. He was the first to really change his lines to get a very deep braking and very late apex so that he's on the throttle more before overrun mapping; resulting in him outpacing Seb for the midseason. Hence my quasi-skepticism about a throttle-sensitive downforce level being the one thing catching him out.

Having said that; Mark doesn't like the rear stepping out; so it could have some merits in the idea.

Dear God have they actually fully squeezed the beam wing and diffuser for downforce that they add a gurney even to the beam wing? The diffuser one is old, though I'm not sure about the beam wing one. I think it's new though

It does. Absolutely.

Currently on Racecar website...

"Newey discusses the RB8, but does not mention anything about the big hole in the front of it"

"the mystery duct (thought to channel airflow under the car)"

I cannot find the reference to cooling the driver. I must be going blind!

How exactly would putting a vent restart the boundary layer?
